Picking the right domain, can be a hard choice to make and can be the success or failure of your website. It’s not just trying to pick the right domain either, its trying to find the right domain, with so many domain names being bought for future resale prices and with so many names being churned up and being turned into proxy sites and parked domains, there is a shortage of unregistered dot com domains. With the focus of other extensions like dot net and dot org coming into play it’s now time to pick up those key domain names. Even if you do not tend on developing them yourself, if you have a keen eye for finding good domain names then buy them.
What is your Keyword?
Firstly to figure out the right domain name for you, you need to look at the type of website your developing, what the keywords are that you will focus on and the niche that the domain is in. On top of that you have how easy it is to spell and remember and the extension that the domain is on. It is a good idea to try and stick with dot com however if the domain you want is already registered and you can not pick it up cheap go with one of the other more popular domain extensions.
So what are your keywords, well for example if you are developing an SEO Tutorial website, you want a domain name with in that area of the market. The most obvious would be SEOTutorials.com however if your not thinking of spending thousands upon thousands of pounds for the domain then I would go with something else. Anything within the websites niche is a winner.
If you can promote and market a website, the domain name is not that important, you just need to make sure it’s easy to remember and spell.
Also if the domain you want is not available then try with prefixes so again using the SEOTutorials example, if that is not available how about trying SEO-Tutorials.com this maybe available. However I would keep your domain name to prefixes like - as they are very common.
