How to achieve a PageRank

PageRank is basically a figure created by Google to measure the importance of web pages. It is calculated on the link structure of a web site, this includes links to your website more commonly known as “backlinks” or “inbound links”.

It is a bit more complex than this however this article will go through the ways in how to maximise your chances of achieving aPageRank.

Firstly through backlinks I shall not explain in detail what a backlink is as this can be read here. However at a basic level a backlink or inbound link is a link from another website to your website. The higher the PageRank of the sources website the better chances of your website ranking higher. However you cannot just go around posting comments on other people’s sites with a link to your website in. The websites have to be relevant to your website, and it would also be common courtesy to ensure the comment made is worth while and credible to that person’s website. The best way to increase your page rank in my opinion is by increasing the amount of backlinks to your website. Now this can take a lot of time and effort however if you focus mainly on commenting on other peoples blogs relevant to your website this should start you off.

You can search for relevant blogs here:

A well designed internal link structure will also help increase you’re PageRank, take for example my navigation bar on the right. This allows each page to have internal links to each others page. Also the top navigation bar adds more internal links. If you only want a couple of targeted pages to have PageRank though, it is best if you only link these pages, as the more internal links you have on one certain page the weaker the link juice becomes.

For example

Page A has a PageRank of 3 it then links to 10 other pages all with no PageRank, the page A is split fairly between these 10 pages, so they all have the same chance of having a page rank. That is if we do not take in to account any other form of linking or increased PageRank activity.

It is also important to note, external links to other websites from your site will take a share of the PageRank juice that the page linking has.
