Many bloggers and webmasters are so fixed on increasing their PageRank that they do not stop to think what happens when they achieve the PageRank they want. Ok there is the case that the PageRank could keep increasing until it reaches PageRank 10 but many sites settle at around PageRank 5 for a long time.
I am going to explain what you can do to try and ensure you keep your PageRank. With the toolbar PageRank update coming up soon (in the next month or two) this is something that many people are worried about.
The first top tip is to not rename files!
This is a mistake which I learn from, my first web development (this site) an inner page received a PageRank from 0-3, I am to this day still not sure how I managed to receive this however I did not complain and instead was rather happy. However I then decided to optimize my website further by including these – hyphens between each word in the file name. How this works is any link juice or PageRank juice that your previous file name had, you will now have lost through the change to your new file name for example.
Previous filename (web address)
http://www.back-links.org/mypagerank.php
New filename
http://www.back-links.org/my-page-rank.php
Do not change domain names:
If you have a domain name already in use on your website then keep it, do not change to a new domain name just because it has a higher PageRank or more backlinks. By doing this any link juice you had would disappear.
I know this is a short article however I feel this is an important message to try and portray. There are other “myths” which people believe will lose you PageRank however I shall discuss them in a later article.
